“Goa – Codes 2023”-  a Coding Competition based on Class VI Elective Curriculum for Academic Year 2022-2023 by Coding and Robotics Education in Schools (CARES) Scheme, Goa

The Project Management Unit managing the Coding and Robotics Education in schools of Goa scheme has launched the “Goa-Codes 2023 ” CODING competition in collaboration with the Directorate of Education and State Council for Educational Research & Training (SCERT), Government of Goa to motivate the students undergoing the Class VI Elective Curriculum under the Information Communications & Technology (ICT) subject for standards 6th, 7th and 8th.

The implementation of Class VI Elective Curriculum for the students of Std. VI, VII and VIII commenced from 09th January 2023 through Lead Schools across the State of Goa and we successfully completed 09 weeks of the implementation. The Elective curriculum was delivered in the afternoon session to only 5100+ interested students.

The objective of the competition is to provide a platform to the students to express their creativity with the help of the concepts taught in the school. 

Coding has become an extremely beneficial skill to have in the 21st century to become future-ready and this competition strives to provide an opportunity to use geometric shapes to creatively depict solutions. Coding helps develop skills such as critical thinking, problem-solving and decomposition which are essential for tackling something as big and important as changing the world.

The competition will be an amazing opportunity for students to develop and showcase their coding skills, design skills and most importantly, have a lot of fun!

The Theme for the Competition is “Automate Your Surrounding using Storytelling & Game Building”

  • Date of Submission – 15/04/2023
  • Date of District Level Result Declaration – 20/04/2023
  • Date of State Level Competition – 25/04/2023
  • Date of State Level Competition Result Declaration – to be announced

So request to all parents to enrol their kids for their competition via the website www.cares.goa.gov.in/prerna and in case of any difficulty to ask the school computer teacher as well as Teach For Goa Fellows to clarify the doubts.

General Guidelines

Here are a few things to keep in mind before participating:

  • The competition is meant only for three grades: Standards VI, VII and VIII who have enrolled themselves for Class VI Elective Curriculum for the Academic Year 2022-23.
  • All the students have to take part to showcase their skills and talent.
  • Students have to participate individually and NOT as a team.
  • A student can submit only one project.
  • The student has to do the project using block-based interface only.

What Type of Projects Can Be Made?

The project has to be based on the theme of the competition. The project has to be original, unique, and use the concepts taught in the school as well as during the elective curriculum classes as part of the syllabus

  • Project Theme (5 Marks)
  • Project File (25 Marks)
    • Concept (10 Marks)
      1. Implementation through the code – 4 Marks
      2. Use of values passed through parameter passing – 3 Marks
      3. Conditional Recursion – 3 Marks
    • Creativity (5 Marks)
    • Code (10 Marks)
      1. Clean Slate – 3 Marks
      2. Use of Blocks – 2 Marks
      3. Naming Convention (Camel Casing) – 2 Marks
      4. No use of variables – 3 Marks
      5. If found to have used Repeat / Forever – Negative 5 Marks
  • Project Video (20 marks – Maximum Duration 10 Minutes)
    • Introduction (5 Marks)
    • Project Explanation (10 Marks)
    • Presentation (5 Marks)

Please note: The project video has to be uploaded by the student on their YouTube Channel and the link of the same will be submitted during the time of submission.
